Innovation Capability Building

“If you want something new, you have to stop doing something old”

Peter Drucker

We are in a time of unprecedented change and as a result, what has worked for an organization in the past may not keep it successful in the future. Organizations need to adapt and evolve to meet the ever-changing needs of their constituents (customers/users/consumers/ partners/stakeholders).

Innovation can be defined as turning an idea into a solution that adds value from a stakeholder’s perspective. Very simply put, innovation is about staying relevant.

The other fallacy is that innovation has to always be breakthrough or disruptive, there is no space for incremental innovation. That is not really the case, as incremental innovations also play an equally important role in the innovation journey.

It is imperative for an organization to have a balanced pipeline of both big and small ideas, which are aligned with the organization’s strategic objectives. At the same time, it is also important to instil a culture that promotes the ability to embrace risk and failure as a step towards reaching the goal. Innovation is a skill, not a gift. It can be learned by anyone and applied systematically.

Turian Labs’ approach to innovation

Through our innovation capability program, we strive to build a long-lasting culture of innovation within an organization. We strongly believe that there is enough information available to everyone within the organization, both through internal and external routes. This ensures that no matter how big or small a company is, it can still innovate effectively on its own. A more distributed and decentralized approach which is connected through an overarching architecture is the cornerstone of our Innovation Capability program.

6 Vectors of Culture of Innovation

To build a culture of innovation in any organisation, Turian Labs has designed 6 vectors that act as a differentiator in the competitive market. Here are the parameters anchoring our proposed program:

  • How to ‘implement’ the innovation roadmap?

Adopting a user-centric approach to ensure employees are acting on the tools provided to them, building a body of innovation to establish a common language on innovation, and transforming the frameworks crafted into an actionable plan.

  • How to ensure ‘scale’ innovation across the organization?

Creating a channel for implementing innovation and capturing both, the inside-out and outside-in perspectives, and simultaneously ensuring it flows across verticals and across hierarchies by cross pollinating the teams.

What Turian Labs can do in building a culture of innovation

  • Identify areas of opportunities by assessing their current readiness through innovation platforms and methods

  • Building an Innovation Lab and appointing ‘Innovation Ambassadors’ from within the team

  • Develop a set of tools that can contribute to building an innovation-led culture

  • Building an entire ecosystem with positioning, messaging, roles & responsibilities and the execution parts

  • Providing a resident team to manage innovation processes on a day-to-day basis
